Please don't hesitate to get in touch via email or the contact form if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Ah... The golden question. This can really be really tricky to answer, and varies depending on a number of factors including the complexity of the difficulties, the length of time you have been experiencing them for, co-morbidities (other difficulties or conditions you may have), how well you engage with and commit to the therapeutic process, and what your specific goals are for therapy. After an initial assessment, I will aim to give a rough estimate of the number of sessions that we may need, but this can change. I regularly review progress to ensure that we are on track to achieve your goals, and make adjustments to the work if needed.
As above, this also varies significantly. Some people experience immediate relief from the act of 'offloading', however this should not be confused with long-term, meaningful change. Many people can find that therapy leaves them feeling worse initially, before later feeling better. This can be due to the nature of discussing and processing difficult things that have been left untouched for some time, and does not mean that the therapy isn't working.
Face-to-face appointments are held in comfortable and private rooms in a convenient location in Tynemouth (NE30), or Gosforth (NE3). They can be reached by bus or metro, and there is free parking available.
Yes. Online sessions are held via Google Hangout.
Sessions are most commonly weekly, however I can sometimes offer fortnightly slots. Sessions last 50 minutes.
Yes, I am registered with Aviva and Bupa. Before we start work I will need to see evidence of your policy number and authorisation for work to go ahead from the provider. You will also need to sign an agreement to pay any outstanding fees that your insurance provider will not cover.
I do not typically work in a diagnostic manner. I prefer to use a trauma-informed formulation based approach - considering the presenting difficulty and making sense of this from your previous life experiences and the wider sociopolitical context in your life.
You may find it helpful to refer to the 'How I Work' page.
Session fees are currently £120. If you are self-funding sessions, I can offer a discounted rate of £110. Further discounted rates are available to carers, those on low income, and those willing to be a training case (EMDR only).
Psychologists hold a doctoral degree in psychology and provide therapy and counselling services. Psychiatrists hold a medical degree and are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders with medications, in addition to providing therapy. I cannot prescribe you medication.
Without good notice it isn't possible to offer appointment slots to other clients and therefore appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice will be chargeable.
